Glue ear

Feb 2, 2025

In the middle ear, a silent plight,
Thick fluid gathers, dulls the light.
No air to dance with eardrum's beat,
No tiny bones, with sound, to meet.

Eustachian tube, not as it should,
Fails to clear the ear as it would.
A common cold, an allergy’s plight,
Brings on this damp, persistent night.

Infections brew, pollutants rise,
The ear’s distress, a muffled cry.
A world once clear, now muffled, dim,
Sound waves lost in liquid’s whim.

Fullness felt, a pressure’s hold,
Mild pain, discomfort, slowly unfold.
Balance sways, a careful tread,
Echoes lost within the head.

Otoscope peers deep inside,
Tympanometry's truth won't hide.
Audiometry’s soundless plea,
Shows the depth of OME.

Wait and watch, let time take flight,
Medicate, or tubes so slight.
Prevention’s key, smoke denied,
Hygiene strong, infections slide.

Breastfed babes, a safer shore,
Reduce the risk, protect them more.
To specialists, with wisdom vast,
Glue ear’s grip, can be surpassed.
